I have discovered something rather worrying on Bogworld. It seems you can challenge other users to a duel; if you win, you effectively delete their account. Likewise, if they beat you, your account is deleted . . . How can I use this to my advantage ? There are plenty I can think of whom I’d love to see deleted . . .

Day 20

This is definitely getting a bit spooky.

Someone introduced themselves to me on Bogworld yesterday and proffered me wine. This is virtual wine, you understand. Nothing ‘real’ about it. Yet after clicking on ‘Accept’, my avatar/character, whatever you call it, started reeling about, staggering and stumbling like an idiot – on his own. Nothing I could do with mouse or keyboard could control his movements. The newbie suggested my avatar was drunk. Seemed to find the idea amusing. I’m just puzzled. It wasn’t the computer playing up either – I checked; either they have some really sophisticated gaming techno, or . . . and I emailed the site to ask whether it was part of the game. They seemed as surprised as I was; said they weren’t aware of any such ‘glitch’ as they called it, apologised and said they’d get their nerds onto it . . .

Well now, there’s a thing. What to do ? Can I win ? What if I lose ? Have I quite squeezed out everything I can get from being on here ? Time to check my account on Authonomy . . .

Muzzled : Guys, guys, you’re hijacking this thread – please take your fight elsewhere ! My point is, the system is broke – which can’t be what Anonomy wants – and after all, if they want the best to reach the top so ideally they can publish half-way decent books, . . . doesn’t it make sense to mend the system so gamers are kept well out of it ?

Anonomy Admin : We agree the site has some problems which we shall be looking into in the near future: however, we would like to emphasize that no rules have been broken.

KittyMouse : Hi, everyone, in response to the earlier thread, this is just to say that I have not broken any rules as far as I know – and I think Anonomy Admin would have told me if that was the case: it’s true a lot of people are backing my books – but that doesn’t mean I asked them to – I don’t even know all of them !

I may take my book down before the end of the week as I have had interest shown by an editor and two separate agents. I hope everyone gets a chance at being published, I really do.

This is . . . unbelievable. Not only has that little creep KittyMouse copied my tactics for shooting to the top, she’s been mutually backing two toehrs over and ABOVE mine – and now says she has an editor and TWO agents sniffing at her manuscript ! Can you believe that ? Cos I can’t.

-And now, she has the nerve to start up a thread taking the Humble Pie Line . .. where’s the sick bucket . . .and as for those other two, Ripe Tomatoes and PinkSocks.

Right. I have it. A new strategy. I shall back books endlessly for the next 6 hours – longer, if possible. And I shall encourage others to do the same . . on a thread. See what happens to their system gaming tactics THEN !
